Lazy days of summer

Our weather in Montana has been really nice lately. Sunny and warm, about 65-75 degrees daily, at night though we get rain, and the temps about 45 or so. I really love the sunshine, how it feels on my face during the day, however the mosquitos are fierce here, you have to shoot them down with a cannon!!! haha, They just seem to love me for some reason, and I am allergic to their bites! Drives me crazy!!!! Itching and scratching, benadryl, cortisone, picardin...ugh! But at night, as they plan their next attack, it seems somewhat serene.

Last night I took the doggies out for a "potty break" about 12:30 am, and I had my flash light with me. As I walked away from the front of the cabin, I noticed off to my right a deer, that I had my flashlight on, so literally had those "deer in headlights" look on his face. I think it was a young doe, lost, maybe. I couldn't figure why it was out alone, maybe staying close to the house for protection??? I went back to the porch as to not seem like a predator.....she backed up and went her merry way, across the road to catch up with the rest of her family.

I love it at night, when it's so peaceful outside, all you can hear (well, for me anyway) is the slight chirping of crickets, or toads, maybe? I wish I could hear the river, gushing over the rocks only a few yards away. But I imagine in my mind that I can.

During the day, we have our friendly little squirrel, Spencer, that keeps us amused. He is so little and cute, climbing from one tree to the next , jumping off one tree, running on the pine needle strewn ground to a big downed log, making a little maze for the dogs to track later when they come out. And just as you can picture, our little hunting dog, Buster, has his nose on the scent of Spencer, and tracks him, over the logs, under the shed, up the tree, he has him treed!!! Buster and Ru try to jump up the tree, but they can't , they just jump up and down and bark. Kinda like "barking up the wrong tree?" And tomorrow, continues the chase. Squirrel jumps out of tree, dogs chase squirrel, squirrel out smarts dogs, dogs go home frustrated....another lazy day of summer,in the forests of Seeley Lake.
