Today while sitting outside, having coffee with my hubby. Our housecat, Latte, decided to come out in the breeze and chew on some grass for a little entertainment in the wild! (for her, its the wild) even though we are right there, as she doesn't come outside much, but when she does, she always is exploring and smelling, and taking it all in...When she gets afraid, like when one of us makes a sudden move, she jumps and runs back into the house. Today was unusual as the door to the front of the house, was a bit ajar. As we were sitting right there, and she was free to come and go as she pleased. However most times, because of the bugs or heat, we keep it closed, even while she is out, and we are out with her.

Have you ever noticed that when something is freely open, we don't really care whether we go in our out, because we know its always there, but when it is closed, tightly, we feel we don't have that "security blanket" there in front of us, to go to when we are afraid.  Latte usually goes to the door, whines a little, and Buster her brother (our parsons russell dog) goes to "help" her push the door in, so she can go inside. He even goes as far as to go in with her, to play for awhile one on one. They love to play with each other, teasing and chasing each other, til they are tired out! Even sometimes, when the door is particularly hard to open, they call in reinforcements, such as  Ru, our lab /collie/ mix, and he "storms " right through the door, knocking it down almost...He is good at brute force, because of his size.

I just noticed how when we have our "security blankets" available what ever they may be, freely there easy to get to, we are at peace. BUT, when they aren't freely available, or easy to get to, then we freak out, get hysterical, or get just plain upset, because we can't feel secure within ourselves, we need our blankey!

I thought this was the perfect thought on this subject, as the cat, when she could go in freely, didnt care, but when the door was shut, she would try to open it, but couldnt so would sit on the deck waiting for her "hero" to come and help her...she usually doesn't have to sit there long........We love sitting out having our coffee in the morning watching all our animals having an adventurous time in  the Montana wilderness....
