Birds, beaks, begging, banquet!

I am sitting here in the serene space of my living room, blogging as I look out my backyard window. I see my lovely deck, with all the lattice for privacy, bird houses everywhere. We have a hummingbird feeder, 2 cups sugar to 1 qt! And a thistle feeder for our little finch friends! And the main "bird banquet", a hanging house that has room for Marty's homemade suet, and bird seed, leftover crumbs, and stuff. Right now as I type there is a starling feeding on the suet. He is carefully looking around to make sure no other birds are close. Earlier, my baby jay flew up to the BB house, and flapped her wings, and used her beak in a very aggressive manner. Starvation, no doubt! She, baby jay, is the one we rescued a few weeks ago, after Buster caught it from falling to the ground. He wasnt going to hurt it, he just caught it in a surprise from the sky. He put it down, and we checked it out, a bit of shock, then later baby jay flew off to the front yard in a tree and found its mother the next day. Two starlings were fighting, now they are gone, and baby jay is up. Baby jay is still fluffy and round, lots of feathers that seem to go all different directions, kinda like a bad hair day....It is so adorable too, I think it thinks of me as its TOM (the other mom)~thanks Michelle!!! Just like Latte our cat, nibbles at my ear lobe, just like she suckled her mother, and our dog, Buster allows us to "hold him like a baby", put a blanket on him, he lays there just like a human between us in bed, with his head on a pillow. Yeah, I have 4 two legged kids.....but I also have 2 four leggers and one two claw, they are a joy in my life now that the kids are all gone. Now it is all quiet on our back deck. Even Lovey, in her cage on the table outside, taking a bath in her little pink bathtub, preening and plucking, trying to figure out who and what are those other "flying" things out there, chewing on her bamboo shoot. I think she is secure and happy in her cage.....as I am happy in mine.
